Street Committee Meeting
August 20, 2024 - 12:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m.
Present were Scott Manchester, Assistant Director of Streets; Jim Bodenhamer, Paige Evans, Susan Stockton and Jennifer Baker, Committee members; and Mayor Adams.
Scott began the meeting by reporting the equipment and vehicles recently sold at auction made $203,764.
The Street Report for July 2024 was reviewed.
The Community Center is coming along well and the total cost to date is $1,380,641.49. This amount does not include $283,144.09 reimbursed by the Parks Department at the end of last year. The total to this project after reimbursement is $1,097,497.40. Susan asked if we were finished over there; Scott said there is much more to do, including piers for the fishing ponds they are working on at this time. He added, there will be a crew working out there until it is done.
As of yesterday, asphalt has been placed at 6th Street and the project is completed. As of July 31, the cost to E. 6th St. is $272,976.51, and there will be a project total at the next meeting.
Both Redbud and Windbrook are undergoing a complete rebuild. New culvert pipe will be placed, curb and gutter, and sidewalk will go in, finishing up with new asphalt. Currently, the crew is locating utilities and plans will be completed to begin this project. To date, $11,067.34 has been spent on this project.
Due to surface water issues at Carlile Highlands, Turnage Trail and Deer Path are being rebuilt. At this time, the crew has installed new culvert pipe, along with the inlet boxes to get the water underground. They are working on pouring new curb and gutter, then the sidewalk will be poured. The project will finish up with new asphalt. As of July 31, the cost is $32,071.36. Jim asked how long this will take to complete, Scott said they should finish up by the end of October.
Scott asked if anybody has been to the Art Walk at ASU. The crew leveled pads along the walking trail, and built and placed concrete pads. They were set for the art sculptures to be bolted down on.
Total spent through July 31 is $785.46.
Scott reported the cost of overlays is $112,725.12. He said we have 7th and 8th Street on the east side to do, along with Justis St. and a few others. He said purchasing this paving machine has worked out well and added the guys have done a great job, the streets look great. The Committee complimented the crew on their job.
Maintenance for the month of July is $30,160.19; this includes, mowing right of ways, cleaning culverts, sign maintenance, etc.
The Budget looks good and doesn't see have issues, Scott reported.
He added, the Street Department is down two laborers, and we'll be filling those positions soon. He said there are some people that just don't want to work.
